If you’ve seen Whip It, you know the scene when Bliss gets her mouth guard as she’s about to play in her first bout. Of course, I HOPE she had one before that, but the point is in roller derby we put very high importance on safety. My parents have come to watch a bout, and while they’re not totally in love with the idea of their daughter playing such a fast-paced, full-contact sport, they think it’s fun and they’re glad I found something I enjoy. For my birthday this year, my mom reasoned that replacing my teeth would be very expensive while protecting them is considerably less expensive. What does that mean? It means I got two fancy new custom Gladiator mouth guards! I just got them in the mail recently after creating a mold of my mouth and sending it back. Here’s my purple one with my name and number on the side and front. I haven’t used them while skating yet, but I can already tell a difference in the way it fits and how easy it is to talk and breath with it on now.
Thanks, Mom!!
PS. If you HAVEN’T seen Whip It, please stop what you are doing now, and go watch it immediately. Sheesh, what have you been doing all this time??
